SOUNDTRACKING 3 by Rachel (@rai_chull)

June 9, 2012

So, as many of my friends will tell you, I’m rather bad at being late for appointments/meetings/coffee dates/shopping dates…pretty much anything! I have no excusesfor my lateness of this fortnights soundtracking, really…I could blame her Majesty for throwing my whole week off track; but I did rather enjoy the patriotic weekend! (Despite the torrential downpours!).

What I have been doing – which isn’t unusual – is listening to more music and creating a little collection of possible songs to introduce/reintroduce you to (I have to admit to a little bit of smugness when I introduce someone to an artist they haven’t heard of before!). I’ve been sitting on this one for a month or so now after hearing her on the soundtrack to the movie “happythankyoumoreplease”. Josh Radnor of “How I Met Your Mother” fame impressively wrote, directed and starred in it and it was a really lovely find! It won the ‘Audience award for favourite US drama’ at the 2010 Sundance film festival! I know this isn’t a movie blog (incidentally, I always have the mickey taken out of me for using the word “movie”…so for the more English amongst you…it’s a talkie/film/picture!) but I will – without apology – sometimes recommend a movie or two here! I can’t help but share! Despite

being an incredibly talented actor/screenwriter/director…he also has great taste in music…Don’t you just hate him?! After hearing this artist he initially recommended her to the writers of HIMYM, giving her a much coveted spot in an season finale. When Radnor came to looking at music for his own creation he turned to her again, even sending her a copy of the script to compose songs around! The song that I’m going to share with you is one of the 14 she did compose!

The artist I’m talking about is called Jaymay. She’s 31, from Long Island and has been hailed as “the darling of the New York anti-folk scene”. The song I’ve picked for you is called “One may die so lonely”…

This track is off the EP “Long walk to never”. I thoroughly recommend adding more of her music to your collection, it’s given me something else to add to my Sunday afternoon/sunny day drive playlists!

It’s also added to my desperation to move to New York and live in an arty Brooklyn apartment…but that’s another blog!

Hope you have a good few weeks, and I’ll try and be punctual next time…
